Papers of Peg Mullen, 1968-1996 (bulk 1970-1979).

Correspondence, clippings, interviews, speeches, and printed materials relating to Mullen's protest activities against the Vietnamese Conflict following the death of her son, Michael, by "friendly fire" in 1970. The correspondence documents the national reputation she earned for her relentless criticism of the Pentagon and for counseling families in circumstances similar to hers. Subjects. include the Pentagon's failure to include non-battle casualties in its daily reports, its explanations of her son's death, C.D.B. Bryan's book, Friendly fire (1976) and its television adaptation (1979). The 1994 accession includes two manuscript copies of Mullen's book, Unfriendly fire: a mother's memoir (1995) and the correspondence she used while writing it.
